Frequently Asked Questions

Please note that all dogs must be on a leash, and all cats must be in a carrier. NO EXCEPTIONS.

1. How do I schedule an appointment?

We are excited to announce our new online scheduler where you can check availability for your request and schedule in real time! This feature will be LIVE on June 1 from our website www.dehartvetservices.com. You can also call us and schedule an appointment. Our phones stay very busy, so it’s definitely easiest for you to schedule from our website.

Beginning June 1, everyone will be required to pay a $15 deposit per pet when scheduling whether you schedule online or by phone. If you have a voucher that covers the entire cost of your visit, we will not require a deposit for your first scheduled appointment. Should you reschedule, you will have to pay to reschedule. If the voucher does not cover the entire cost, you will be required to pay a $15 deposit to schedule.

All deposits go toward the cost of your appointment day services. You may reschedule 48 hours prior to your appointment one time without losing your deposit. If you need to reschedule inside 48 hours you will be required to pay a new $15 deposit.

2. When I visit the scheduling link, why don’t I see the location or day I wanted?

The scheduler checks for available appointments, so if you don’t see a day you wanted, it usually means there are no appointments available for that day you selected.

3. How does this work?

On your scheduled surgery day, you will drop off your pet at the time assigned to you according to your pet:

8:30am female dogs

9:00am male dogs

9:15am all cats

• Dogs arrive with a collar and a leash.

• Cats must be in HARD SIDED PLASTIC CARRIERS, like the one pictured below, lined with something absorbent like newspaper, towel, or pee pad.

Hard sided cat carrier

We require our surgery check-in form to be completed. You can print and bring it completed with you from our website at the link below, or we provide the forms and you can fill it out when you arrive.

IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO BE ABLE TO REACH YOU IN AN EMERGENCY ON SURGERY DAY. Please be sure your contact information is correct.

Surgery Check-In Form

You will check in your pet when your forms are completed. We will go over the form with you and verify any questions.

IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL DOGS AND INDOOR CATS TO WEAR AN E-COLLAR OR RECOVERY SUIT FOR 7–10 DAYS AFTER SURGERY.

Your pet will be weighed, briefly examined inside the trailer, and approved for surgery. You will be given a pickup time—if not, please ask.

At pickup, please review your charges, discharge instructions, medications, and items purchased (e-collar, recovery suit, etc.). Ask questions if anything is unclear.

Because we are a low cost service, we are moving to electronic forms. Your receipt and any other documents will be emailed to you.

4. I cannot drop off my pet. Can someone else drop off or pick up my pet?

Yes. If someone else is dropping off your pet, please print and complete the surgery check-in form and send it with them.

5. Can you see my pet for illness?

We do not see sick or injured pets. You will need to see a full service veterinarian.

6. Does my pet have to be vaccinated before surgery?

The only vaccination required is Rabies, which we can administer the same day as surgery. Other vaccines may also be given during surgery.

RABIES VACCINATION IS REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF TEXAS ANNUALLY.

7. My pet had Rabies elsewhere. Can I show a receipt or tag?

No. We require a Rabies certificate (paper or digital). Receipts or tags are not accepted.

8. How much do you charge? Do you take cards?

Prices are listed on our website:

www.dehartvetservices.com/pricing

We accept cash, cards, or check. Debit/credit cards incur a 3% or $3 fee (whichever is greater). Returned checks are $35. We do not accept Care Credit.

9. Why do you need my email and cell phone?

We use an automated system for confirmations and reminders. Email is also required for schedule changes or clinic cancellations. Please keep your email updated and check it regularly.

10. How do I know my appointment is scheduled?

You will receive an email confirmation within minutes. Do not delete it—it contains all appointment details.

11. Why do you need my pet’s weight?

Our mobile trailers have limited kennel sizes. Weight determines availability. We can weigh your pet for free at any clinic.

12. Why are large dogs booked so far out?

We have limited kennels for dogs over 40–60 lbs. Being flexible with location may get you in sooner.

13. Why is it hard to reach you by phone?

We have minimal staff to keep costs low. Online scheduling is the fastest way to book. You may also text or email us.

14. Do you have discounts?

We offer a 10% Veterans discount with valid ID. No other discounts are available.

15. Is my pet too young to be fixed?

No. We spay/neuter pets as young as 8 weeks and over 2 lbs. Earlier is often better.

16. Do you fix pigs or rabbits?

Yes. Small pigs under 20 lbs and rabbits. Same pricing as dog spay.

17. My pet had surgery and now has an issue.

Call or text 903-590-7722 immediately or return to a clinic by 10am for a free recheck.
