Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I schedule an appointment?

We are excited to announce our new online scheduler where you can check availability for your request and schedule in real time! This feature will be LIVE on June 1 from our website www.dehartvetservices.com. You can also call us and schedule an appointment. Our phones stay very busy, so it’s definitely easiest for you to schedule from our website.

Beginning June 1, everyone will be required to pay a $10 deposit per pet when scheduling whether you schedule online or by phone. If you have a voucher that covers the entire cost of your visit, we will not require a deposit for your first scheduled appointment. Should you reschedule, you will have to pay to reschedule. If the voucher does not cover the entire cost, you will be required to pay a $10 deposit to schedule.

All deposits go toward the cost of your appointment day services. You may reschedule 48 hours prior to your appointment one time without losing your deposit. If you need to reschedule inside 48 hours you will be required to pay a new $10 deposit.

2. When I visit the scheduling link, why don’t I see the location or day I wanted?

The scheduler checks for available appointments, so if you don’t see a day you wanted, it usually means there are no appointments available for that day you selected.

3. How does this work?

On your scheduled surgery day, you will drop off your pet at the time assigned to you according to your pet.
8:30 female dogs
9am male dogs
9:15am all cats

We require our surgery check in form to be completed. You can print and bring it completed with you from our website at the link below or we provide the forms and you can fill it out when you arrive. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO BE ABLE TO REACH YOU IN AN EMERGENCY ON SURGERY DAY SO BE SURE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION IS THE RIGHT WAY TO REACH YOU.
Surgery Check-In Form

You will check in your pet when you have your forms completed. We will go over the form with you and verify any questions.

IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL DOGS and INDOOR CATS TO WEAR AN E-COLLAR OR RECOVERY SUIT FOR 7-10 DAYS AFTER SURGERY.

Then you will take your pet and your forms to be weighed in and we will take your pets. At this time someone will come back to let you know your pet was approved for surgery after a brief exam inside the trailer and give you a pick up time. If they do not give you a pick up time, ask for it.

You will arrive for pickup, wait to check out. Check that you are paying for what you think you should be. Before you leave, do you understand the discharge instructions? Did you get items you paid for? i.e. e-collar, meds, etc. Does the suit or cone fit correctly? Ask questions if you do not understand something.

Because we are a low cost service, we are moving to electronic forms. Your receipt and any other documents will be emailed to you.

4. I cannot drop off my pet. Can someone else drop off or pick up my pet from surgery?

Yes, you can send someone else to drop off or pick up. If you are sending someone else to drop off your pet please print and complete the surgery check in form on our website and have that person bring it in with your pet, completed.

5. Can you see my pet for illness?

We do not see sick or injured pets. You will need to see a full service veterinarian.

6. Does my pet have to be vaccinated before the surgery appointment?

The only vaccination we require is Rabies, and we can give it the same day as surgery. We do offer other vaccinations that also can be given during surgery.

RABIES VACCINATION IS REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF TEXAS ANNUALLY.

7. My pet had Rabies elsewhere, can I just show you the receipt? Or the tag?

No. We require that you bring or show us (can be on your phone) a Rabies certificate, not a receipt, not a tag. The vet that provided the vaccine can provide the certificate to you.

8. How much do you charge? Is it cash only? Do you take cards?

Prices are on our website and if they change, it is reflected there.
www.dehartvetservices.com/pricing

We take cash, cards, or check. There will be a 3% or $3 (whichever is greater) charge for debit or credit cards. We charge $35 for returned checks. We do not take Care Credit.

9. Why do you need my email address and cell phone number?

We use an automated system to confirm appointments just like your human doctor. It uses email and cell phone to text you reminders about your appointments.

In addition, our patient management system uses your phone number for account set up. We can only use one phone number for one customer account. If you are trying to set up an appointment for someone else, you will need to also enter their phone number, email address, etc, not yours.

Additionally, it’s important to make sure you keep this information up to date, especially when scheduling appointments so we can notify you of changes to our schedule.

If a clinic is canceled or rescheduled, we send EMAILS. There is no possible way for us to try to call 100 patients on that day in that moment when a clinic must be moved or canceled. It is important for you to keep your email up to date and to provide us with a valid email address.

10. How do I know my appointment is scheduled?

You will get an email confirmation within minutes of scheduling your appointment with consent forms to be signed electronically when a new appointment has been scheduled if your email address is correct. It contains all of the details of your appointment so do not delete it.

11. I don’t know how much my dog weighs, why do you need that?

We are a mobile unit and use a medical trailer to hold our clinics. Inside the trailers are kennels to hold the dogs before and after their surgery. They are different sizes, so we have to know the weight to schedule an appointment for each kennel spot.

12. Why are you booked so far out for my dog who weighs over 40 lbs?

We only have 2-4 kennels on each trailer for large breeds over 60 lbs and a few for breeds over 40 lbs. These spots go quickly. You will get in quicker if you are willing to drive to a location a little further away usually.

13. I have called several times. Why does no one answer the phone?

We are a low cost clinic and to keep it that way we have minimal staff. One person answers the phone, and when that person is on the phone, they can’t answer incoming calls. We do try to return missed calls in the order they are received. If you need to speak to someone, you can keep trying to call. Many questions can be answered by visiting our website. Also, you can email us using our Contact Us form on our website and we will try to help. The quickest way to get an appointment is to schedule online.

14. Do I have to bring my pet for flea/tick meds or heartworm meds?

For heartworm meds, pets must have had a heartworm test within 12 months. If they had a test at another facility, you can bring us a copy.

If your pet has been seen by us within the last year, you just need to know their current weight in order to pick up prevention. If it’s been more than a year since we have seen your pet, you can bring them to any clinic between 10am-3pm and we will do a free weight check and update their records.

15. Do you have discounts for people on disability, medicaid, veterans, etc.?

We do offer a Veterans discount of 10% off our services with a valid military ID. We are a low cost service for everyone. We do not offer additional discounts.

16. Do I need to wait until my pet is older than 6 months or has their first heat cycle?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Earlier than 5 months is best! We can spay/neuter as long as your pet is older than 8 weeks and weighs over 2 lbs.

17. Do you fix pigs or rabbits?

Yes, we spay or neuter small pigs under 20 lbs and rabbits. Same costs as dog spay/neuter.

18. How can I get my pet’s flea medicine from you sooner?

We offer an online mail order pharmacy. We use USPS and shipping is $5 on all orders.

19. My pet was spayed or neutered at this clinic, but now I have a problem (within 7-10 days), what do I do?

Call or text us immediately at 903-590-7722 or bring your pet back to us for a recheck at any clinic location by 10am. We always want the best for your pet, and we are happy to re-evaluate them if we performed surgery, free of charge. Additional medication will be at your expense such as antibiotics, pain meds, etc. if needed at the recheck.

20. Where are you today?

Scroll down to the bottom of the Find Us page on our website and we now have a LIVE calendar to tell you where we are every day of the month. That is the place to look for updates to our schedule.

21. My dog/cat is in heat or pregnant, do I need to cancel?

We still spay if in heat or pregnant as long as the pet is not in active labor. We charge an additional $10 when in heat or $25 for pregnancy. It is safe to do the surgery but of course there is an increased risk of complication as with any surgery. We typically do not charge for In Heat Cats because cats are always in heat.

22. Can you email me my pet’s records?

Yes we can. Email thespayneuterproject2024@gmail.com to request. We need pet’s name, what exactly you need, and email address to send.

You can access them yourself anytime with our new Medical Records Request link on our website. Look for this feature to be LIVE by July 1.

23. Do you accept Vouchers?

We accept many vouchers. Usually whoever issued your voucher will tell you where you can make your surgery appointment. It says on the front of the voucher where to go, what they cover, etc. If you are using a voucher with us YOU MUST PRINT IT OUT and bring it with you to drop off WITH YOUR PET in the morning.
